Researcher Dr. Jim Thomson requests grant funding from the Navy
to develop applications of the Hydrovolts turbine for ocean
sensor power.
February:
Hydrovolts moves to new office at the
Washington Research
Foundation; a new Technical Assistance Grant is provided by the
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for generator design.
2008
December: A new
larger prototype turbine is constructed at Everett Engineering,
Inc.
September: A
Cooperative Research and Development Agreement is signed with
the
Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington

The US Congress passes the Energy Independence and Security Act
of 2007, including Subtitle C—Marine
and Hydrokinetic Renewable Energy Technologies.
This provides $50 million per year for five years for ocean and
river energy R&D.
