Hydrovolts, Inc. provides new hydropower solutions to generate renewable energy from fast-flowing currents.

Hydrovolts turbines allow distributed and point-of-use generation or can generate revenue from net metering to the electrical grid.

Hydrovolts turbines are:
  • simple
  • safe
  • complete
  • compact
  • modular
  • scalable

Hydrovolts turbines are also extraordinarily cost-effective with an operating cost of less than $0.01/kWh, and a typical capital ROI of less than 5 years.

The Hydrovolts Flipwing Rotor

The Hydrovolts Flipwing turbine gets its name from the ingenious Flipwing rotor design invented by Burt Hamner. This patent-pending design is strongly differentiated and has several competitive advantages over alternatve designs.

Hyrovolts Wins NWEN First Look Forum

Hydrovolts was selected the winner of the innaugural Northwest Entrepreneur Network (NWEN) First Look Forum, held March 24, 2009 at Belltown's Big Picture. The audience of over 80 accredited investors, fellow entrepreneurs and venture capital professionals made Hydrovolts their popular choice. Said Hydrovolts CEO Burt Hamner, "NWEN organized an incredibly useful event ... that helped us sharpen our thinking, improve our business plans and deliver effective presentations. We were happy to make the final 12 ... and delighted to win!"

Hydrovolts was one of 12 finalists chosen from over 50 initial applications to appear the event. The 12 companies each made a 3-minute presentation from which 5 companies were picked to give fuller 10-minute presentations.

Thanks to all of you who were at the event and voted for us!

Hydrovolts Presents!

In a sign of the company's continuing progress and excellent prospects, several investor groups have selected Hydrovolts to present to their members. Upcoming Hydrovolts presentations by Burt Hamner and Chris Leyerle include:
  • Zino Green, Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Chris made the pitch to the screening committee on April Fool's Day (!) and Burt will try to repeat his success at the NWEN First Look Forum to take first place here too and win Zino's amazing $50,000 first prize. We'll have a table and be showing the turbine prototype; come see and cheer us on!
  • AeA MicroCap Financial Conference, Monday, May 4, 2009. Hydrovolts is one of just 10 private companies selected to present to this national financial and investment conference in Monterrey, CA. Chris will take the podium for the company, and also meet with angel investors in the Bay Area on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Keiretsu Forum (deal screening), Thursday, May 7, 2009. Burt will tell the Hydrovolts story to this fast-growing angel investor group with chapters nationwide, including several around the Pacific Northwest.

Meetings with additional groups and interested individuals are being scheduled as time allows.

Grant Funding

Even as we pursue investor funding, Hydrovolts is also actively seeking other sources that will advance our technology and business. Funding from grants will accelerate our progress without diluting the ownership stake of our investors. Several grant programs have criteria that match up very well with Hydrovolts' current stage and situation; these are being carefully prioritized and pursued.

In addition the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the "Stimulus Bill") contains significant funding for renewable energy programs and initiatives. One of particular interest is the (Washington) State Energy Fund, a $60M block grant which will be administered by the Washington State Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED) office. While criteria are yet subject to change, preliminary indications suggest a preference to make grants to Washington companies at seed stage that are engaged in innovative renewable energy R&D and demonstration projects and which will use the money to create jobs. This exactly describes Hydrovolts, which is also the only company in Washington pursuing renewable hydropower.
